Ét stræde, to landeOne strait, two countries

The Sound holds Copenhagen and Malmö together in twenty minutes. The bridge carries a motorway and a railway in one structure, from Amager to Skåne.

RegionenThe region

To bredder, én hverdagTwo shores, one daily life

The Sound is not one country, but it is one region. Copenhagen sits on the Danish shore with its airport at the foot of the link; Malmö sits on the Scanian shore, twenty minutes away by train. For centuries the water was the border, and the toll at Helsingør the king’s income. Since 1 July 2000 the strait is a connection, not a gap.

The region reads best across: out of the city, over the bridge, into another capital by the same morning. The trains run through, the motorway runs through, and both shores trade with each other all day.

Sund Inform is independent. We sell no crossing, no tickets and no rooms. Where a figure moves, we send you to the operator rather than print a number that will be wrong next week.

Gæstebladet følger strædet: anlægget selv, overfarten i praksis, de to byer, Skåne bag Malmö, togene og ankomsten. The gazette follows the strait: the link itself, the crossing in practice, the two cities, Skåne behind Malmö, the trains and the arrival.

Over Sundet fra land til landAcross the Sound, from country to country

The Øresund fixed link carries a motorway and a railway in one structure between Denmark and Sweden: Copenhagen on one shore, Malmö on the other. With the bridge you cross from one country to another in Europe, directly and without a ferry.

  • Anlægget. The link. Opened 1 July 2000. About 16 km: the Drogden tunnel from the Copenhagen side, the artificial island Peberholm, and from there the bridge down to Lernacken near Malmö.
  • To etager. Two decks. Motorway on the upper deck, railway below. The route is part of European route E20, which runs on along both sides of the Sound.
  • Land til land.Country to country. You drive from Denmark to Sweden without a ferry and without a customs border: Schengen allows free movement, though Sweden may announce temporary identity checks at the border.
  • Betalingsmønstret. The payment pattern. Private cars settle the crossing with the operator; most register their number plate and pay automatically. The operator’s private-traffic page carries the current terms.

This gazette sells nothing: the terms sit with the operator.
